LAUNCH OF AT PLAY: NEW PLAYS FOR CHILDREN AT BABORÓ INTERNATIONAL ARTS FESTIVAL FOR CHILDREN

Cataloguing new Irish plays for children aged 4-12 years written in English and Irish, the report includes statistics on the most prolific playwrights, a timeline of premiere productions and a directory of 234 new scripted plays premiered round Ireland (North and South) and internationally since 1975. The analysis of the 42-year period highlights the changes in the theatre landscape and the successes and considerable achievements of the sector.

Drawing from ITI’s online resource PLAYOGRAPHYIreland. At Playis the first Findings Report and Catalogue dedicated solely to theatre for children. It is edited by ITI’s Playography Researcher, Claire Keogh and will be launched at Baboró by ITI’s Co-Directors, Siobhán Bourke & Jane Daly.

The launch of ‘At Play’ will follow Yvette Hardie’s presentation and will include light refreshments.

LAUNCH OF AT PLAY: NEW PLAYS FOR CHILDREN AT BABORÓ INTERNATIONAL ARTS FESTIVAL FOR CHILDREN

Irish Theatre Institute (ITI) launches a new Playography Findings Report and Catalogue dedicated to the rich contribution of scripted plays for children to the Irish dramatic repertoire. The report contains findings drawn from PLAYOGRAPHYIreland and celebrates the work of the theatre companies, playwrights, directors, designers and actors who have made significant contributions to the repertoire of new writing for children since the founding of TEAM Educational Theatre Company in 1975.

ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE RECIPIENT OF THE PHELIM DONLON PLAYWRIGHT’S BURSARY & RESIDENCY 2018/19

This award is named in honour of Phelim Donlon, former Drama Officer at the Arts Council and a dedicated member of the first Irish Theatre Institute (ITI) PLAYOGRAPHYIreland Advisory Panel, in acknowledgement of his valued contribution to Irish theatre.

The award comprises the ITI writer’s bursary of €1,000 and a two weeks’ fully resourced residency in Tyrone Guthrie Centre, Annaghmakerrig. The previous recipients of the award are Fiona Doyle (2015/16), Dylan Coburn Gray(2016/17) and Amy Conroy (2017/2018).

SELF-PRODUCING ARTIST TRAINING 2014

The aim of this two day intensive workshop is to better inform the self-producing artist about the practicalities of the production process and to equip artists with the tools required to make their practice more sustainable. On completion, participants should have a clearer understanding of the production process, strategic planning and management, marketing and the practical applications involved in budget creation and projection.

The course will cover essential skills for the self-producing artist including:

Strategic Planning
Developing a Producing Brief
Understanding your Finances
Budgeting
Knowing and Reaching your Audience
Insurance
Perfecting your Pitch
Scheduling and Running your Production
Documenting your Work
The training will have a maximum of 10 participants – up to two people from one company can apply to attend together (e.g. an artist and their producer). Facilitated by Siobhán Bourke (Co-Director), Jane Daly (Co-Director) and Eláine Donnelly (General Manager).

Criteria

Participants must have a minimum of three professional productions in the past five years
Participants must have a new project in the pipeline
Participants must be fully available to commit to participate on the 5th & 6th November, 10am-5pm.
Suitable for theatre practitioners who have not previously participated in ITI Self-Producing Artist Training.

Cost

€40 per person – to cover tea/coffee, lunches each day and training materials.

ÓCÁID CHOMÓRTHA | A CELEBRATION OF MÁIRÉAD NÍ GHRÁDA

To mark the 50th anniversary of the premiere production of ‘An Triail’ (22nd September 1964) and its English language version ‘On Trial’ (19th March 1965), Irish Theatre Institute celebrates the contribution of Máiréad Ní Ghráda to Irish theatre with a bilingual rehearsed reading of On Trial /An Triail followed by a panel discussion examining the play and playwright in its theatrical and historical contexts.

PRIME 2016

PRIME offers professional theatre actors the opportunity to upskill and to build on new and existing networks through a series of industry workshops, masterclasses and engagements along with physical well-being techniques. This programme is provided free of charge to participating actors (funded by the Arts Council and Age & Opportunity/Bealtaine Festival).

PART 1:
Two Day Self-Taping Workshop with Casting Director Maureen Hughes
Friday 11th & Saturday 12th November
Bow Street Screen Acting Academy, Dublin
Participants in this 2-day self-taping workshop can expect to learn new and to improve existing techniques, to gain confidence around the self-taping process and what it involves. Participating actors will shoot one-to-one auditions with direction and critique from Casting Director Maureen Hughes, and will view their work on a cinema screen together with evaluation and feedback.

PART 2:
Two Day Masterclasses and Industry Engagements
Saturday 26th November & Sunday 27th November
17 Eustace Street, Temple Bar, Dublin
Part two of the prime programme consists of an intensive programme of masterclasses, ‘In Conversations with’, discussions and engagements with industry professionals across two days in late November. Focus will be on increasing networks and engaging with a community of peers as well as approaches to working comfortably and safely late into your career.

DRAMATURGY WORKSHOP WITH HANNA SLÄTTNE

Hanna Slättne is the Director of New Work Development at Tinderbox Theatre Company where she runs the dramaturgy strand of the company’s activities: working with writers under commission, production dramaturgy and artist’s development programmes such as TAKE AWAY THEATRE and the STATE OF THE ARTS initiative; a series of dramaturgy led workshops for theatre makers. She works closely with Tinderbox’s Participatory programme across their varied range of activities. She is the dramaturg on Reassembled Slightly Askew; a sonic arts and new writing, immersive experience which is currently touring. She has worked with most of the leading Northern Irish theatre companies as part of the Joint Sectoral Dramaturgy Initiative 2005- 2015 and regularly collaborates with the BBC and Northern Ireland Screen providing skills development for writers. Together with Jo Mangan she devised and delivers the Space Programme an interdisciplinary arts residency focusing on collaboration and artistic processes since its inception in 2008. The programme is run bi-annually in Ireland by the Performance Corporation. Hanna is a founder member of The Dramaturgs’ Network UK and since 2015 is working with Pamela McQueen to launch the Dramaturgs’ Network Ireland. In 2016 Hanna won the Kenneth Tynan Award for excellence in dramaturgy.
