Online Resources

ITI has created, built and designed two complementary, specialist databases, PLAYOGRAPHYIreland and IRISHTHEATRE.ie. These databases are major resources for theatre practitioners worldwide and reflect ITI’s contribution to the online arts infrastructure. ITI is committed to providing accurate, up-to-date and relevant information for its online professional users and audiences.

PLAYOGRAPHYIreland

PLAYOGRAPHYIreland houses two complementary fully searchable and comprehensive databases of new Irish playwriting – Irish Playography (all plays in English professionally produced since 1904) and Playography na Gaeilge (all plays in Irish produced since 1901).

PLAYOGRAPHYIreland not only defines the Irish theatrical repertoire for the first time but also aims to revitalise that repertoire by reintroducing many lost scripts and providing a gateway for locating and clearling rights for all exisiting scripts. As PLAYOGRAPHYIreland allows writers to attach downloadable versions of their plays to the database, it also acts as an online script repository.

Irish Playography was launched in three phases: Phase I (1975 – 2003) following two and a half years of extensive research; then Phase II (1950 – 1974) and finally Phase III (1904 – 1949) in July 2006. Playography na Gaeilge was launched in two phases: Phase I (1975-2009) in April 2010 and Phase II (1901 – 2010) in May 2011. Both databases are updated on an on-going basis each time a new Irish play is produced. PLAYOGRAPHYIreland currently contains information on over 3,400 plays in Irish and English from 1901 – 2011.

The information on PLAYOGRAPHYIreland is fully searchable. From the advanced search page you can search by play title, playwright, company, venue, year produced or type of play. You can also search for an individual from the 9,000 theatre practitioners contained in the database.

The information contained in PLAYOGRAPHYIreland is complemented by Finding Reports analysing their contents.
