OPEN CALL TO THEATRE DESIGNERS TO ATTEND THE PRAGUE QUADRENNIAL (18-28 JUNE 2015)

1 Apr 2015

ITI is issuing an open call for Travel Awards for theatre designers to visit and engage with PQ15 for c. three days/ nights between 18 – 28 June this year.

To qualify for one of these Arts Council Travel & Training Awards you must be a professional designer working in theatre/ dance/ opera in one of the following areas: set, lighting, sound, video, costume, prop, hair and make-up. You must be resident in Ireland or Northern Ireland.

Given the large number of designers working in Ireland, Travel Grants (up to max. of €680) will be awarded on a first come, first served basis in two categories until the budget is allocated:

  • Emerging Designers – must have designed no less than threeprofessional productions
  • Established Designers – more than seven years as a professional or more than ten professional productions

Ireland participated in the Prague Quadrennial for the first time in 2007 (the exhibition was curated by John Comiskey and produced/ project managed by Irish Theatre Institute). In 2011, ITI assisted in the co-ordination of the Abbey Theatre’s sound installation of Mark O’Rowe’s Terminus for ‘INTERSECTIONS at PQ11’ and secured funding from the Arts Council’s Travel & Training Scheme for a number of Irish Designers to attend PQ’s exhibitions and workshops. The Arts Council, in recognition of the importance of this event, has again made funding available to ITI to facilitate Irish theatre designers to attend this year’s Prague Quadrennial (18 – 28 June) for professional development purposes.

The Award is intended to support a designer’s travel, accommodation, PQ15 registration and workshop costs but it unlikely that it will cover the full cost of attending PQ15. Please note that since the Arts Council has committed this allocation for distribution by ITI, there will be no additional funds available from the Arts Council for travel to PQ15.

If you have already received an Arts Council Travel & Training Award to attend PQ15 you are not eligible to apply.

To apply you must complete the attached short form and return it in both email and signed hard copy (scanned documents accepted) to: esenger@irishtheatreinstitute.ie
