IRISH THEATRE INSTITUTE ANNOUNCES ELEVATOR IN ASSOCIATION WITH TOWN HALL THEATRE GALWAY

Irish Theatre Institute this week announced ELEVATOR, a new Resource Sharing initiative in association with Town Hall Theatre Galway. This new East/West partnership, funded by the Arts Council, will provide mentoring, strategic planning, exchange and training opportunities for emerging Producers and it will be supported by administrative and infrastructural resources in two Producer Hubs, one located in Dublin and one in Galway. Participants will be provided with a stipend to allow them to see work by other artists and engage with networks in the partner city.

Irish Theatre Institute (ITI), is a Dublin-based national resource organisation for the professional Irish theatre sector led by two experienced producers – Siobhán Bourke and Jane Daly. It offers training, advice and support to practitioners at all stages of their careers.  In recent years ITI has delivered a programme of resource-sharing and mentoring opportunities for artists and companies, often with an emphasis on producing and strategic planning. In November 2015, at the invitation of Galway 2020, ITI provided a two-day self-producing artist training workshop at the Town Hall Studio. ELEVATOR is a development of this relationship with the Town Hall Theatre, one of the busiest touring and producing venues in the country and offers exciting new opportunities for emerging Producers both in Galway and Dublin.

ELEVATOR will act as a catalyst for six producers based in Dublin and Galway to develop their expertise, skills and networks at a crucial point in their careers. Through an open call and application process, ITI will recruit six mentee Producers (three based in Irish Theatre Institute, Dublin; three based in Town Hall Theatre, Galway), each of whom will have existing relationships with artists/companies or existing projects to participate in the 12-month scheme, beginning January 2017.

On announcing the ELEVATOR initiative Jane Daly, Co-Director of Irish Theatre Institute said, “ITI is delighted to partner with Galway’s Town Hall on this new Arts Council funded capacity building initiative. The emphasis will be on collaboration, mentorship, networking, up-skilling and touring with a view to assisting emerging producers in Dublin and Galway to develop sustainable careers. The awarding of European Capital of Culture to Galway adds another exciting dimension to this scheme”.

 

 

Welcoming the news, Town Hall Theatre manager Fergal McGrath said “We at Town Hall Theatre are delighted to be part of this capacity building initiative and at such an exciting time for Galway.  It is critically important that emerging producers here in Galway have the opportunity to develop sustainable careers and we look forward working with ITI on this and future developmental projects”.

Selection will be by open call, application, shortlisting and interview. The six successful candidates be announced in December 2016.
