Irish Theatre Institute is calling for applications from performing arts practitioners who wish to attend the 35th INTERNATIONAL THEATRE INSTITUTE WORLD CONGRESS, Manaus, Amazonas, Brazil, 30th May – 4th June 2016

TRAVEL AWARDS AVAILABLE of up to €1,490 each: Irish Theatre Institute (ITI) has secured Arts Council Travel and Training Award funding for up to 7 performing arts practitioners to travel to the 35thWorld Congress of the International Theatre Institute, Manaus Amazonas, Brazil. ITI is now issuing an open call to practitioners to engage with the 35th World Congress for up to 6 days/nights, 30thMay – 4th June this year.  To qualify for a Travel Award you must be an established professional theatre, dance or opera practitioner with more than 7 years’ experience or more than 10 professional productions and with a demonstrable interest in international touring.  You must be normally resident in Ireland or Northern Ireland. Given the large number of expected entries in Ireland, the Awards of up to €1,490 each will be awarded on a first come first served basis.

Please note: Application forms will be available online from 8th February and will not be accepted in advance of this date.

The International Theatre Institute is an international non-governmental organisation, founded in 1948 to promote international exchange of knowledge and practice in theatre arts. Irish Theatre Institute (ITI) represents the National Centre of the International Theatre Institute, a role which requires the provision of certain services and facilities, many of which are already provided by ITI though its programme of activities. As a National Centre, ITI has an Advisory Panel in place to manage the activities of the centre and Ireland’s representation at the World Congress (see below for Panel details). This application process is also open to members of the Advisory Panel. The World Congress which takes place every 2/3 years is the largest gathering of all members of International Theatre Institute. The Congress brings together performing arts practitioners from all over the world where they can connect with others and initiate projects, future collaborations and creative projects. In November 2014, Irish Theatre Institute participated in the 34th World Congress in Yerevan, Armenia.

The Award is intended to support a practitioner’s travel and accommodation costs but it is unlikely that it will cover the full cost of attending the 35th World Congress. Please note that since the Arts Council has committed this allocation for distribution by ITI, there will be no additional funds available from the Arts Council for travel to the 35th International Theatre Institute World Congress 2016.

Applications open from Monday 8th February 2016. Successful applicants will be notified on Friday 19th February 2016.
