Three Show in a Bag alumni will share their remarkable artistic journeys with you. From the spark of their initial ideas, to how they turned them into a play, and shaped their work while out on the road. Come ready to listen, share and be inspired. This is a great opportunity for anyone aspiring to the Show in a Bag programme.

Organised by Tiger Dublin Fringe, Fishamble: The New Play Company and Irish Theatre Institute.

 

Noni Stapleton- Charolais (2014)

Noni is an Irish actress, voice over artist and playwright. She graduated from the Gaiety School of Acting in 2002, beginning her theatre career in What the Dead Want (directed by Jimmy Fay) at Project Arts Centre, Dublin. She has continued to work in theatre, tv and film as an actress and writer and has also performed in many Irish language productions. She is Co-founder of Skipalong Theatre Company for which she co-wrote One for Sorrow and Two for a Girl, also playing multiple roles in both productions. Among her many acting roles, Noni plays Timothy Dalton’s wife Gladys Murray in Penny Dreadful (Showtime USA).

Her one woman play Charolais won the Little Gem Award (Tiger Dublin Fringe 2014), Best Monologue Bouquet (Edinburgh Fringe) and was shortlisted by The Writers Guild of Ireland for Best Theatre Script 2014. Last month saw her nomination for The Susan Smith Blackburn Prize, the oldest and largest prize awarded to women playwrights. Charolais was chosen from over 150 nominated plays from the US, the UK and the Republic of Ireland and other English-speaking countries. Noni’s adaptation of Charolais for radio has been nominated for the Prix Europa (2015) and a PPI award for Best Drama in Irish Radio Broadcasting. She also won Best Actress for her performance in Charolais at the New York Festivals International Radio Program Awards.  

 

Janet Moran – SWING (2013)

Janet’s acting credits include: Shibari, Juno and the Paycock, Translations, No Romance,The Recruiting Officer, The Cherry Orchard, She Stoops to Conquer, Communion (Irish Times/ESB Theatre Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress) for the Abbey Theatre; Desire Under the Elms, Freefall, Everyday, Dublin by Lamplight and Car Showfor The Corn Exchange; The Bridge Below the Town (Livin’ Dred), Pineapple and Xaviers(Calipo Theatre Company), Unravelling the Ribbon (Gúna Nua). Film and television credits include Volkswagen Joe (Ripple world), Minim Rest (No Return Films), Breakfast on Pluto (Pluto Films), The Butcher Boy (Butcher Boy Productions), Moll Flanders (Moll Flanders Productions), Nothing Personal (Little Bird), Quirke (BBC), Love/Hate (Octagon Films), Love is the Drug (West St Television), The Clinic, Career Opportunities(RTÉ/BBC) and Trivia (Outstanding Actress in a TV Comedy Series nomination, Monte Carlo Television Awards).

SWING (Show in a Bag 2014), which Janet co-wrote with Gavin Kostick, Peter Daly and Steve Blount, was the Winner of Bewley’s Little Gem Award and nominated for Best Female Performer (Janet Moran) and Best Male Performer (Steve Blount) at Dublin Fringe Festival 2013. It toured to the Irish Arts Center, NY (2014); Centre Culturel Irlandais, Paris (2014); Dublin Dance Festival followed by Irish tour (2014); Edinburgh Festival Fringe (2014); Christchurch Arts Festival and Auckland Live, New Zealand (2015).

Janet is currently in rehearsals for The Plough and the Stars to open in the Abbey Theatre in March before a tour of Ireland and Washington DC. In the meantime, SWING will continue to tour nationally and internationally as part of the Ireland 2016 Centenary Programme, featuring Arthur Riordan and Gene Rooney.

 

Sonya Kelly – The Wheelchair on My Face (2011)

Sonya studied Drama and Classics at Trinity College, Dublin. Her theatre work includes collaborations with the Gate Theatre, Druid Theatre, The Corn Exchange, Fishamble: The New Play Company, Kabosh Theatre and Pan Pan. Sonya has also performed her own work in Ireland, the UK and America. She was shortlisted for The UK Funny Women Awards at the Comedy Store in 2006.

2012 saw Sonya do a national tour of her Show in a Bag, The Wheelchair on My Face, produced by Fishamble: The New Play Company. Over the following years, the show continued to travel internationally to over fifty venues. In 2013 it was listed as Critic’s pick in The New York Times. Sonya was also the Winner of the Scotsman Fringe First Award for this show at the Edinburgh Festival (2012).

Most recently, Sonya appeared in How to Keep an Alien, produced by Rough Magic, the self-penned memoir directed by Gina Moxley, with performances in Paris, Brisbane, the Soho Theatre London, at the 2015 Edinburgh Fringe Festival and throughout Ireland. It also won Best Production  at the Tiger Dublin Fringe in 2014.

Sonya was a cast member of David McSavage’s very popular The Savage Eye sketch show. She is also a reular contributor to RTE’s radio arts show, Arena.
