Irish Theatre Institute (ITI) is delighted to announce that Emmy Award winning Costume Designer Joan Bergin will launch a new publication and website Stage & Screen Design Ireland - Highlights 2007- 2014 on Tuesday 8th December 2015 at Irish Theatre Institute. This website and publication is a celebration of the artistic excellence of 150 Irish designers working across all disciplines in theatre and film in Ireland.

Following a call earlier this year from Irish Theatre Institute for design nominations, designers and companies responded with nominated designs across all categories (full details on the nomination process are available on stageandscreendesignireland.ie).

In Stage & Screen Design Ireland the design categories are:

  • Stage – theatre, opera and dance – costume, hair and make-up, lighting, set, sound and video.
  • Screen – film and television drama – costume, hair, make-up and production design.

With this project ITI has documented work that is rarely given the appropriate focus and appreciation it deserves. The website and publication highlight design achievement and generate professional opportunities on the world’s stages and screens.

The project features the work of internationally recognised designers of both stage and screen and for this project ITI worked closely with photographers to create comprehensive image banks for all nominated designs enabling them to tell an invaluable visual story of Irish stage and screen design.

This publication and the corresponding website has been developed by Irish Theatre Institute in collaboration with Year of Irish Design 2015, Irish Film Board and Culture Ireland.

Irish Theatre Institute is committed to supporting and enabling the individual artist to make work. To date, ITI has primarily worked with playwrights, actors, producers and production companies. Stage & Screen Design Ireland is ITI’s contribution to the conversation on Irish design and its importance in the artistic success of productions for stage and screen.
